Happy Earth Day. Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the environmental movement which began in 1970. The publication of Rachel Carson’s New York Times bestseller Silent Spring in 1962 represented a watershed moment, selling more than 500,000 copies in 24 countries raising public awareness and concern for living organisms, the environment and the inextricable links between pollution and public health.*

Fast forward to 2022 a large proportion of society continue to behave with a lack of awareness around the cause and effect of everyday behaviours. We are still driving gas guzzling vehicles despite the cost of petrol rising and the increased awareness on the environmental effects. Additionally, we continue to consume a vast amount of single use plastics, many of which cannot be easily recycled if at all. Furthermore we witness this plastic and other non-biodegradable material end up in the ocean and worse still, in the stomachs of sea life.

There are heroic steps being taken in some parts of the world to clean up waste and create a more sustainable and circular model when it comes to the disposal of materials, however, we still have a long way to go and time is running out. As individuals we need to take part in this effort and equally be rewarded for doing so. That is our vision and purpose, to support the ongoing effort across the globe by creating products which motivate and incentivise good disposal and recycling behaviours. Stipra, an App and SaaS based product is doing exactly this. Join us in our fight to dispose of waste properly and save the planet from chocking on plastic and other waste material.

To tackle this issue we need both society and brands to lead the path to a sustainable future. We need to change in the way products are made, packaged, consumed and most importantly disposed of. We are calling on brands and consumers alike to invoke their power to drive this essential change, not just on Earth Day, everyday.
